Srikanth T. Nagesh

Intro

Hello, I am Srikanth. I am post doctoral researcher at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. I obtained my PhD from Observatory of Strasbourg, France in 2025. Here is a summary of my awesome work.

I am from Bengaluru, India. I obtained my masters degree in astrophysics from the University of Bonn, Germany.

Work

My main interest is to test and constrain different gravity theories using galactic dynamics as probes. In particular, I am very passionate about bars and spiral arms of galaxies, and their impact on galaxy evolution. I have mostly worked on idealised galaxy simulations in Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) gravity. Now, I am working on projects in both Newtonian and MOND gravity. I mostly use the Phantom of Ramses (PoR) code, which is a MOND patch to the adaptive mesh refinement grid code RAMSES, to run my simulations. I have a good knowledge of the workings of RAMSES/PoR. I have written a manual to setup, run, and analyse disc galaxy simulations in PoR, which is available with all the respective algorithms on my bitbucket page

I have simulated galaxies ranging from ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in galaxy clusters, to field gas-rich UDGs, and low surface brightness galaxies to massive disc galaxies. My recent work on UDGs in galaxy clusters led to the development of a patch to PoR where I implemented the Coma galaxy cluster as a background potential in both Newtonian and MOND gravity. The developed patch is available on my github.

ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, welcome to my website. I am Srikanth Togere Nagesh (ಶ್ರೀಕಾಂತ ಟಿ. ನಾಗೇಶ್), I come from Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Although I am an astrophysicist at heart (and profession), my curiosities span across multiple disciplines. My state Karnataka is rich with temple architectural marvels (e.g.Belur, Sringeri, Hampi), and has the richest wildlife in the sub-continent. Growing up, I used to visit a lot of these temples, which are built with a high-degree of sophistication motivated by scientific methods. The most intriguing aspects to me was their astronomical knowledge and technological provess involved in building such structures. I was curious to learn how our ancestors predicted the motion of stars and planets, and more broadly the science behind temples. A cumulation of such curiosities led me to become an astrophysicist.

Apart from physics, I am intrested in understanding animal behaviour, in particular of Snakes and Elephants. I am also a history enthusiast with a particular interest in modern world history, ancient and medieval history of Bharatha (India). I am an avid traveller who likes to learn about different cultures and their history. I constantly seek new perspectives, and my stay in Europe thus far has been most enlightening. I enjoy discussions on politics and its evolution, religion, and philosophy of various cultures. I am a professionally trained basketball player, but I also like cricket, badminton, chess, table tennis, and carrom.

I speak English with native proficiency along with 5 other Indian languages (e.g. my mother tongue Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, and can read and write in Sanskrit). I am a very social person who enjoys working in a multi-cultural, dynamic environment.
